Do you know most truffle oils don’t actually contain truffles (and how to spot the real ones)?

Many commercial “truffle oils” are made with synthetic aroma molecules (2,4-dithiapentane.

If your Truffle oil including “”Flavouring” or “Aroma” without any REAL TRUFFLES in it,

It's most likely fake truffle oil made with chemicals called 2,4-dithiapentane.

In the past, truffle oil was created by the chef who adored truffles so much and didn’t want to throw away the rest of the truffles after they were used for the dish. So he decided to infuse the top of the truffles, or the peel of the truffles, all the little pieces of the truffles in the good quality of EVOO(extra virgin olive oil). Truffle itself has a very strong aroma so it can be easily infused if you put them in when it's in good condition.

So originally it was actually made with a real piece of truffles but nowadays, there are tones of fake oils with ONLY chemicals. “Truffle flavouring”

Flavouring can be used, but only for supporting methods like emphasising the original flavour but if you put Olive oil + artificial flavouring = can you really call them Truffle oils?

When I’m telling this to my friends, surprisingly, few of them were like “oh I like the smell of truffles so it doesn’t really bother me even if it’s a fake”. so it actually depends on the point of view when it comes to choosing the “Right” ones actually.

But isn’t it different that if you buy it with the information and are aware of the facts that it is not a real one and you buy it anyways and you have no idea if it's fake or not but you pay an expensive price for the fake one without any information?

Here is a few things you can check if you want to get a real one

1. It was made by the Truffle Expert Company.

: they tends to have their own truffles, real fresh truffles, and how to handle, probably doing they that business for generations, than just normal food company who can make process fodds

2. if it said "Truffles" in the ingredients list on the label.

: Winter Truffle, White Truffle, or their academical name like "Tuber Melanosporum"

3. You can see the tiny pieces of the truffles in the bottle.

: Even if it's a tiny tiny piece, that means it's infusing the little one. In this case, they even put "flavouring" on the lable but if it has a piece in the bottle, you can consider it as a good one.

4. Made in Italy or France.

: They are known for their truffles in the world. and so many family buisness that hand it down as a family legacy. - Quite serious about what they are doing!
